Abstract
Iron deficiency has been shown to be present in up to 30-50% of heart failure patients. Heart failure patients that are iron deficient have been shown to have higher hospitalization rates, increased mortality, less functional or exercise capacity, and impaired quality of life. Many heart failure guidelines address using iron in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction and iron deficiency, but fail to give specific regimen recommendations. This scoping review aimed to systematically identify and describe the available literature on iron replacement in regards to clinical efficacy and safety in this population.
