Pre-Residency Welcome Survey & self-assessment of competentcies

After successfully matching with our program, our incoming residents complete this survey in February. The purpose of this survey is to gather information to assess the resident's prior learning, baseline knowledge, skills, attitudes and interests, as per the Canadian Pharmacy Residency Board (CPRB) requirements. The results of this survey together with the resident's self-assessment of competencies will be used by the residency coordinator to create an individualized learning plan for the residency year. Around the same time that new residents are sent this survey, they also receive a separate emailed invitation from the web-based software assessment platform (One45.com) to complete the baseline self assessment of CPRB competencies (see below).

In addition to this assessment and the survey responses, we do our best to consider the resident’s elective rotation and vacation preferences to design the new resident’s rotation schedule and program activities. See below for the questions asked in the pre-residency survey:

Residents perform a self-assessment of their competencies before the start of the residency year, at the start of the residency year, at the mid-point of the year and at the beginning of the program. Completion of this assessment helps to tract the progress of a resident longitudinally throughout the residency year, but is also used by the residency coordinator in building the syllabus of you residency year and customizing the residency program to your learning needs.
