Abstract
There is currently a lack of consensus in the literature regarding the optimal management for Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS). NAS refers to the constellation of symptoms that a neonate may experience following antenatal exposure to substances that can induce withdrawal, including opioids, benzodiazepines, and other psychotropics. Traditionally, NAS management has focused on pharmacological therapy, however many centres have transitioned to a supportive care approach utilizing the Eat, Sleep, Console model. In the absence of literature consensus, this study endeavours to describe current NAS patient management and outcomes in the NICU at Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH) to support development of a site-based/regional NAS management protocol.
