Abstract
Severe COVID-19 infections lead to hypercoagulability and increased rates of thromboembolic complications and several trials have been conducted to assess the benefit of therapeutic anticoagulation in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. In April 2021 there was a change in recommendations to consider therapeutic anticoagulation in severe COVID-19 hospitalized patients with a low bleeding risk. Our study is a retrospective chart review characterizing the risks and benefits associated with therapeutic anticoagulation in patients with severe COVID-19 at three Fraser Health sites in order to review the safety of this change in practice.
