Abstract

Many patients admitted to the ICU are taking an antidepressant prior to admission. The current literature does not provide clear guidance for the management of a patients' home antidepressant following admission to ICU; there are often both reasons to hold the medication as well as risks associated with abrupt discontinuation. A previous residency study developed consensus criteria for SSRI and SNRI discontinuation parameters from critical care pharmacists across Canada. By identifying antidepressant prescribing patterns at Kelowna General Hospital, we can determine if further intervention or education is needed in order to adopt previously established consensus criteria.
