Abstract
Landmark trials show guideline-directed medical therapies (GDMT) reduce hospitalizations, morbidity and mortality in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). The average age of patients in the literature is approximately 61 to 65 years. There is limited data to describe the use of GDMT in octogenarians and nonagenarians; however, GDMT may be underutilized in this population due to a perceived risk of harm. The purpose of this study is to characterize GDMT use in octogenarians and nonagenarians with HFrEF. In addition, the study will identify barriers that prevent the potential benefit of GDMT from being extended to octogenarians and nonagenarians.
