Abstract
Currently, the appropriate use of proton pump inhibitors in the Interior Health outpatient geriatric population is unknown. PPIs are a prime target to evaluate the appropriateness of prescribing in this population, and come with short and long term adverse effects. This study will determine appropriateness of PPI use in an outpatient geriatric population, determine the proportion of patients who could be at risk of adverse effects and comorbidities with PPI use, determine which patients are at highest risk of adverse effects with PPI use and set up further research for discontinuation of these medications.
