Abstract
The preceding 3C’s study described the incidence of co-infections and rate of inappropriate antibiotic prescribing in COVID-19 patients at Lions Gate Hospital (LGH) during the first pandemic wave. Since then, corticosteroids and interleukin 6 inhibitors have become the standard of care, however, may be associated with an increased risk of late co-infections. This retrospective cohort study characterizes 132 COVID-19 patients admitted to LGH between July 2020 to June 2021 and describes incidences of co-infection, anti-infective prescribing patterns and patient outcomes. Late co-infections developed in 18.2% of patients and were associated with increased immunosuppressive therapy use, ICU admission & covid-related complications.
