rotation description
The BC Cancer – Victoria Pain & Symptom Management/Palliative Care (PSMPC) Team promotes and provides
palliative support and symptom management that meets the needs of persons and their families
affected by cancer wherever they are in the continuum of care, and regardless of the goals of
therapy.
The core Victoria Team consists of physicians, nurse practitioner, pharmacist, and nurses, supported as needed by other Clinic staff. The Team offers new patient consultations and follow-up sessions to support cancer patients experiencing challenging cancer- or treatment-related symptoms including, but not limited to, pain, nausea or other gastrointestinal symptoms, hiccups, dyspnea, wounds, fatigue, or other symptoms related to advanced cancer.
In addition, the Team strives to facilitate optimum continuum of care with community partners, and to promote knowledge and evidence-based practice in the realm of pain and symptom management and palliative care. During this 4-week rotation, the resident will be an active participant, providing pharmaceutical care within the daily PSMPC clinics and fulfilling the role of the Team PSMPC pharmacist.
